. . . is a course that doesn't exist.
Some things can't be simplified into a Dummies course. Some things can't be boiled down into seven easy steps.
Hell, I've written over 1000 blog posts on the arts, marketing, leadership and diversity and I'm just getting stuff figured out.
So consider this a reminder that much of what you are trying to do in the arts is hard.
It's difficult to find an acceptable balance art and commerce. It's challenging as hell to balance the need to hit a financial bottom line with desires for audience inclusion and diversity. It's hard to create remarkable art in a cluttered world.
If it was easy, we would have done it by now. The same way we have figured out how to make music digital, or operate a light board.
So you might want to cut yourself a little slack. You're operating in a world that is infinitely more complicated then it was 10 years ago and 10 years from now that will only be more true.
Of course you shouldn't use that as an excuse not to try and attack the complex issues. If you're not willing to do that then your usefulness in this world will be limited.
But there's no shame in acknowledging the difficulty of the task.
