Promise me (and yourself) that this year you will:
1. Make more art - If you produce two plays a year, this year produce two plays and six workshops. If you write one book a year, this year write one book and two short stories. Give yourself more opportunties for your art to connect with an audience.
2. Spend more money (wisely) - Invest in your professional development. Invest in your fellow artists. Stop always trying to produce your art on the cheap. I'm not saying to throw your money away. I'm saying that you shouldn't be afraid to spend it.
3. Get the right people on your team - Take a hard look at the folks around you. Do you have the "right people" in the "right seats" of your proverbial bus (as Jim Collins would say). If you don't do the hard work involved in making that happen. If you have the wrong people or have them in the wrong jobs then your artistic growth will be limited.
4. Create the chance for more intelligent failures - Key word is intelligent. Failure due to poor planning is no good. Failure due to incompetence is no good. Failures that you can't recover from because you blew all your money, reputation or team morale is no good.
But failures that you learn from and can lead to artistic, personal or organization growth . . . that's the sort of thing you need more of.
Do those things and a great 2013 is yours.
