When it comes to marketing, I see way too much doing and not enough thinking.
Marketing is one of things where you can always do something. Another eblast. A new show visual. A new Tweet or Facebook post. You can always look busy.
The hard part is to do nothing. Well, not do nothing, but actually think about what you are doing.
Good marketing is about understanding the situation. The goals. The tools. The timing. The budget. Once you have a handle on all that then you do stuff. Not before.
What if today, you walked away from the computer and just spend a few hours thinking about your marketing goals, strategies and tactics? What if you resisted the pressure to look like your always "doing something" and just did one or two things really well?
Good thought! I am going to the From Mission to Marketing workshop tomorrow to learn more about doing just that ;) Congrats on all the great feedback on Porgy and Bess!
