"If it's not scarce, it's worthless."
That's the concept I have burned into my brain.
That's what we are all hunting for. There are no guaranteed paths to success, but it always helps if we bring something into the world that is unique.
When I look at the arts, I'm always pondering that scarcity question. What's rare? What's missing?
I think that transparency in the arts is rare. How is the art made? How is the organization built? We don't talk about that much.
I think a healthy relationship between artist and audience is scarce.
I think superior customer service is pretty rare.
I think artistic projects that have a real chance of failure are rare.
But those are just my thoughts. What do you think? What's rare in your artistic world? What need are you filling? What need could you fill?
