I try not to take anything relating to the arts too seriously, but one thing that can set me off is when people start comparing artists that take "risks" to those who don't.
I believe that anyone who has the courage to put a play, movie, painting, etc. in front of the public is taking a considerable amount of risk. I don't really care how tame or provocative the content is.
I also think that it's really difficult to judge the amount of risk an artist is taking without understanding a lot of different factors that we don't always get to see from the outside. Things are rarely as risky, or as safe, as they appear.
There are plenty of fair ways to access the work that other artists do, but let's try to leave the risk factor out of it.
Agreed. Thank you for mentioning this.

Yes, I believe the amount of risk is in direct proportion to the artist's level of experience. The more you put your work out there before an audience, the less risky it seems. And it's ALWAYS still risky! Thanks for helping artists understand and accept that feeling fear doesn't make you inferior -- it's simply part of the journey we must all take.
