I guess a fair question to ask is, "why do it?"
Why go through all the work involved in marketing your art?
Why go through the effort of building a Board and fundraising (if you are a nonprofit) or figure out additional streams of revenue if you are for profit?
Why try to pay artists a fair wage? Why try to compensate administrators? People can just volunteer right?
Why go through all the trouble of building a healthy organization?
Here's why:
When you can do work that's meaningful.
And invest the money in the production elements that help a live artistic event become something special.
And pack the house with an appreciative and engaged audience.
And pay everyone involved a solid wage.
And create a work environment where people feel valued.
That is an incredible experience.

Yes, building a healthy organization is hard. It takes more work, more education, more effort and more luck then you think.
But imagine this . . .
What if you pull it off?
What if you find success where SO many others have found failure?
Making the decision to go on that journey is a HUGE one and it shouldn't be made without a lot of consideration and preparation.
But if you take that critical look at yourself and the landscape in front of you and STILL think you make it to Nirvana then go for it.
Ignore the people who tell you the path is impossible.
Go for it.
