You may be able to give a compelling argument about why people shouldn't watch so much reality TV.
But can you make an equally compelling argument about why people should go see your play?
You might be able to convince some people that most books are populist crap written for the lowest common denominator.
But can you give them a good reason to plunk down $15 and buy your book?
Too many of us are still working under the assumption that if we criticize popular culture enough then people will finally see the light and come racing toward our warm embrace.
Just remember, arguing that what every else does sucks IS NOT THE SAME as arguing that what you do is any good.
They are entirely separate arguments.
You can succeed at one and fail miserably at the other.
