I'm sure that a lot of people thought Cirque Du Soliel was a bad idea.
A circus with no animals?
Performers that don't speak English?
Bad idea.
Of course nobody says that after millions of tickets sold and hundreds of millions of dollars made.
I'm sure a lot of people thought Zappos wouldn't last.
They sold shoes. Everybody sells shoes.
And yeah, they said they would be committed to customer service and have a different organizational culture.
But everybody says that too.
Of course nobody said that when Amazon bought them for 900 million dollars.
-------------------
Don't be afraid of your bad ideas.
Don't be afraid of doing things a little, or a lot, differently.
That may be the only way to get to where you want to be.
How about Gummy Body Parts? That's the example I usually give when I speak to middle/high school students about careers in Marketing, through the Black Star Project. But, how do you think people responded when someone suggested making edible fingers and ears? It's a huge Halloween industry now!

It's interesting doing something different, something that none of the other companies in your field do. Sometimes, it feels so very right and other times so incredibly wrong. It's important to always remember that different is not necessarily wrong. AND, that people fear change - they may be chastising what you do not because it's wrong but because it's not the way things are done....
