When's the last time you had a conversation with someone whose intelligence and wisdom scared the hell out of you?
When's the last time you saw a play, or a dance exhibition, or a painting, that made you immediately want to go out and become a better artist?
You need to surround yourself with those types of people . . . because those are the ones that force you to improve.
You need to get better at what you do.
You know that right?
And you know that if the only people you associate with are people with comparable skill level's then it is going to be hard to improve, right?
Find some people who knock you out of your comfort zone and send you flying back to the drawing board.
Those are the people that will make all the difference in your career.
Because they deserve shout out's Marc Pouhe in Grapes of Wrath at the Zach Scott Theatre, and The Rude Mech's during Method Gun are the most recent folks to do that to me.
And AMEN. Amen and Amen.

I think that it's also just as important to surround yourself not just with people who do what you do better, but also with people who have different skill sets--who can bring different things to the table.
It's extraordinarily difficult to grow as an artist if you are always working with folks with similar backgrounds, skills, ways of thinking and Aesthetics.
I think most orgs and we as a community often suffer for a lack of artistic cross-pollination as we tend to hyper-focus on only one thing.
